- Name, Title, and 2-3 sentences about your business/organization.
Shawn Buehler, Principal, Bennett Frank McCarthy Architects, Inc. We are a residential architecture firm serving the DC area, specializing in single-family additions, renovations, and new homes. With over 35 years of practice in our location, we are at our best when working with our clients to create spaces specifically designed to the unique living patterns of their family and the distinct features of their site.
- What is your connection to Lafayette Elementary School?
In the past 15 years we have completed dozens of projects in the Chevy Chase neighborhood feeding Lafayette. While we are not residents of this community ourselves, we feel a great sense of pride and ownership in the neighborhood fabric and our many contributions to its character.
- How does your organization engage with/support the Lafayette community?
We are proud of our continued and long-standing support of Lafayette through sponsorships like this one, and participation in the silent auction. We are appreciative of the asset Lafayette Elementary is to the community and believe our continued work in the neighborhood is one of many examples of how the entire community benefits from a quality educational presence.
- What is your favorite Lafayette tradition?
I am impressed by the outreach the school does, not just to its own family base, but to those like myself who work in or serve the community. That engagement is unique and valuable to all the people it benefits–students, parents, and local businesses alike.
- What is your favorite thing to do in the neighborhood?
As a residential architect I am very fond of this neighborhood. The residents of Chevy Chase have organically maintained a real cohesive sense of place and character. That is incredibly difficult to do with the many pressures of the real estate market to expand and renovate homes well beyond the reasonable constraints of their individual lots. I truly believe the cohesive whole is a result of a strong community with shared values and a common sense of pride in their neighborhood. We are proud of the work Bennett Frank McCarthy continues to do to maintain and expand upon that great character.
