Is this on your radar? Starting June 29, WMATA will make significant changes to the buses Lafayette families use. The changes are part of WMATA’s Better Bus Plan.
Those who count on Metrobus service for school or to connect to the Metro will want to know:
- The new C85 line to Tenleytown will replace the M4. Buses will arrive at 30-minute intervals only. If your student misses a bus, what’s your back-up plan?
- Got kids headed for Deal or Jackson-Reed next year? Check out the C85 map and schedule.
- The C85 line will be limited to rush hour service only (6:00-8:30 AM and 3:00- 6:00 PM only.
- If you work downtown and use the Red Line-to-M4 connection at the Tenleytown Metro, is that 6:00 pm last bus realistic?
- WMATA will eliminate some bus stops along the former M4 route. Some students will have to walk farther to get to their stop.
- The E6 is not coming back.
There’s good news too:
- The new C83 line will make it easier to get to Friendship Heights.
- Even better, the new C83 will run hourly on weekends, 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Spread the word!
There’s more. But see for yourself. The final proposed routes are published here. It’s a big document, reflecting the size and scope of the city-wide Better Bus Plan. Scroll down to the map + schedule pages for the C83 and C85. The plan to-date reflects many hours of work by WMATA, the Chevy Chase ANC 3/4G, the ANC’s Bus Transit Working Group, and neighbors who contributed their comments and suggestions along the way.Better Bus C83 Bus 2025 Better Bus C85 Route 2025
