Celebrating Black History Month

As part of the Lafayette community’s unwavering commitment to building a place where all kids and families belong, the Lafayette Home and School Association (HSA) is proud to celebrate Black History Month! There are a variety of ways that you and your families can learn about the legacy of impressive contributions made by Black Americans across our nation.

  • Save the date for a visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture! Lafayette’s HSA Belonging Committee is hosting a special visit to the museum on March 23 and will be making tickets available soon. Mark your calendars and stay tuned to sign up for free tickets!
  • Later this month the Lafayette HSA Belonging Committee is organizing a Playdate in the Park, open to all Lafayette families and community, to celebrate Black History Month. More information coming soon!
  • KidFriendly DC has a list of events and activities around DC to celebrate Black History Month.
  • Celebrate Black History Month with Smithsonian events, resources, exhibitions, and podcasts. The 2025 theme focuses on the various and profound ways that work of all kinds intersects with the collective experiences of Black people. 
  • Learn more about Carter G. Woodson, a scholar whose dedication to celebrating the historic contributions of Black people led to the establishment of Black History Month.
  • Visit the Lafayette HSA Belonging Committee’s new webpage for tips on how to promote a sense of belonging at Lafayette and resources for talking with your kids about race and diversity.
