Library

Our library helps students become critical thinkers and skillful, responsible users of information.

Lafayette’s library provides an inviting, relaxing area for the students. With more than 14,000 books to choose from, every student is able to find a book they really want to read! The library also provides a collection of print and electronic sources that support the curriculum and new technologies in classroom learning and research.

In addition to having library class as a Special, students can go to the library before or after school or during SEE time in the afternoons.

Checking Out Books

All students are encouraged to check out books! How many may each student have at a time?

  • Pre-Kindergarten: 1 book
  • Kindergarten: In the fall, 1 book- later in the year 2 books
  • 1st Grade: 2 books
  • 2nd Grade: 3
  • 3rd Grade: 4
  • 4th Grade: 5 books
  • 5th Grade: 6 books

When additional books are needed for research, projects, or Buddy Reading, their limit may be extended.

Families can monitor what their student has checked out by logging onto our online catalog with the student’s ID number and birth date. If a student loses a book, please notify our librarian, Rachel Leese, as soon as possible. While students are not required to pay to replace a lost book, families are welcome to buy a replacement copy to keep our library stocked!

Want to Volunteer in the Library?

There are always opportunities to volunteer in the library. The Book Fair typically takes place in December and can only be achieved with the support of family volunteers. Email the HSA in the fall to join the Book Fair committee! Want to help us reshelve books? Email Rachel Leese to share your interest, as well as the regularly occurring day and time that you might be available to do so, to see if it is a good fit.
