What a Relief!

Dec 11, 2024

Thanks to the generous amounts of paper towel/toilet paper tubes, we were able to facilitate an amazing project for students in grades 1-5! Students learned about the art of “relief.” What is a relief, you ask? Relief, in sculpture, is any work in which the figures project from a supporting background, usually a flat surface. Students worked in small groups, cooperatively arranging and gluing down pieces to create radially symmetric designs. Radial symmetry in art refers to the arrangement of visual elements around a central point, creating a sense of balance and harmony. After the reliefs were created, they were spray-painted to add some color. We are hanging these phenomenal masterpieces in the annex area of the cafeteria for all to enjoy. Below are some photos of the work in progress. Thank you again for all your support of the arts at Lafayette!
